The 2017 MotoGP Championship got off to a strong start for Team Suzuki Ecstar newcomer Alex Rins. The GSX-RR rider finished ninth at the season opener in Qatar and became the fastest rookie. The week after the MotoGP in Qatar, Rins broke his ankle in a fall while training in motocross. The 21-year-old Spaniard was cleared for the second round in Argentina, but DNF after a fall. The bad luck continued at the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
