Jerez is hosting round four of the MotoGP World Championship this weekend, but for Alex Rins it means a chance to be 100% fit in Andalusia, unlike last year.

Rins missed the 2020 season opener after suffering a dislocation fracture in his right shoulder in qualifying. Although he started a week later, this will be an opportunity to regain the form around Jerez that he showed ten days ago at Portimao, but he also finished second in the race for Marc Marquez in 2019.

From a speed point of view, not results, the Portuguese Grand Prix was the best race of the year for the Suzuki rider last time around before crashing while trying to keep up with eventual race winner Fabio Quartararo.

Rins demonstrated his and the potential of the GSR-RR bike as he was the only rider who could challenge the French but pocketed the front at turn five.

Ahead of this weekend, Rins said: “It’s so nice to be in good shape here in Jerez. Last year was very difficult with my injury and it’s a great feeling to come back fit.”

“I’m confident about the way the bike is performing at the moment and I like this track a lot.

“It’s going to be a very intense weekend with many drivers very competitive, but I’m looking forward to leaving bad memories behind and achieving a great result.”

Rins will start the championship in seventh place on Sunday – 38 points less than Yamaha’s Quartararo.
