FIM is closely monitoring the situation after the Australian driver made a statement on social media Sharni Pinfold, that aroused strong emotions in the motorcycle community. Gender equality is a core value for FIM, which continually strives to ensure the well-being of all drivers and stakeholders. The FIM was upset by the news and is taking Ms. Pinfold’s testimony very seriously. The FIM and the Australian Motorcycle Federation kept in close contact with the young rider to understand the facts that caused Sharni to be so discouraged. We would like to emphasize that Sharni Pinfold can count on the unconditional support of the FIM to meet this challenge.
The FIM reminds that the practice of motorcycling is open to all without discrimination and condemns all behavior that contradicts these values. Any form of discrimination based on political, religious, sexual or racial reasons must never be tolerated. Since 2006, the FIM Women’s Motorcycling Commission (CFM) has been working hard to create equal opportunities and promote equal treatment for women involved in motorcycle-related activities.
“The FIM does not accept any discrimination against our drivers, regardless of their gender. We are a motorcycle family, everyone is welcome. No inappropriate or disruptive comments or actions will be tolerated. We want to support all drivers and enable them to realize their dreams and keep their motivation high. The FIM Committee for Women in Motorcycling continues to work hard, together with the FIM and its stakeholders, to improve gender equality in our sport at all levels, “concluded the CFM Director, Dr. Nita Korhonen.
Ms. Pinfold added: “When I experience what I have experienced on my own journey, I want to be able to help ensure that women are treated with disrespect and misogyny. I really hope that I can promote the much-needed improvement across the motorcycle industry and in all industries that treat women differently. This is not just me, there are many other women who have been treated badly and so I hope I can empower others to see the importance and worth of self-esteem.
It would be easy for me to sit back and point my fingers at those in charge, but I believe that real strength depends on how we react. I am not here to be a victim, I am here to stand for what is right and to get this message out there for all women. I am grateful for the support and measures taken by FIM, with a clear focus on equality for all. This is what we stand for. “
