MotoGP will always see surprise winners in ’21 ‘

For the second time in five seasons, nine different riders reached the top step of the podium in MotoGP 2020. Fabio Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli, Joan Mir, Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira took their first wins.

The curtailed and curtailed schedule for COVID-19 as well as the absence of six-time world champion Marc Marquez due to an injury and the change in the rear tire construction added to the unpredictability this year.

But Crutchlow believes that even under normal circumstances, seasons like 2020 will continue to run due to the competitive nature of the field. The new Yamaha test rider praises the “fantastic job” Dorna Sports has done with the regulations over the past few years.

“Yeah, honestly,” Crutchlow said when asked if we’d see a similar season in 2021. “I think you will keep seeing these surprise winners, I think you will keep seeing a lot of people.” The podium was spread over the whole year, as everyone is essentially sitting on a factory bike.

“Carmelo [Ezpeleta, Dorna CEO] did a fantastic job in terms of the rules to make the race so close and competitive and the fights all over the field. Everyone has a good bike now. Some drivers can ride the new tires and some can’t, but the people who struggle with them may grow up with the tire a little more and be able to be more competitive.

“Essentially, you’ve seen great races all year round for 14 races this year, and I’m sure you’ll see the same next year, even if it’s a normal championship. But I think you will have a lot of different winners. ”

Crutchlow says he’d love to see his close friend Jack Miller win with Ducati in 2021 and sees “no reason he can’t fight for the title next year”.

“For my part, I want Jack to win,” he added. I think he proved he did it. He did it again in these last few races.

“There’s no reason why he can’t fight for the title next year. I look forward to seeing Marc [Marquez] Come back too because he was so dominant last year and deserved to be on the grid. ”
