The SRT rider’s challenge in the championship collapsed dramatically since his GP victory in Catalonia at the end of September. The Frenchman completely gave up his hopes with a crash last week in Valencia.
Like all Yamaha riders of 2020, he has criticized the newest bike, but believes that the first MotoGP outing this weekend at the Algarve Circuit will be more about improving your own “negatives” than the M1 in the To do something with a view to 2021.
“Not really a basic line-up because we had more or less the same in all races where we were fast,” said Quartararo, who is 17 points behind the runner-up, when asked by Motorsport.com if he had seen this weekend as partially a test session.
“So, we have it, but I just want to improve on all of the things I’ve seen negatively about myself and try to be on the track and say, ‘Okay, what are my negatives since the start of the season? Okay that’s it so I want to change everything for this GP and try to work really well and see how it feels.
“And I think it’s more about myself than the bike. But we will certainly try tests, tomorrow we will try settings that are important for the future.
“Because in the end we have 70 minutes [in FP1] and 70 minutes [in FP2] Tomorrow.
“It will be a very important day for us. And I think it’s pretty important to them, to us, and also to myself. ”

After a similarly difficult time on board his factory Yamaha, Maverick Vinales is only two points ahead of Quartararo in the overall standings.
The Spaniard says his focus is no longer on where he ends in the championship and he believes it is more important to try to have fun on the bike this weekend as things can’t get “worse” for Yamaha right now .
“I’m thinking more about the second part” when asked by Motorsport.com if he was approaching the weekend as a test or just for fun.
“I think this is a track that you can honestly enjoy. It’s a completely different route. It seems that it is a very fun route.
“I ride the R1 and it was amazing. I think MotoGP will be very challenging because you are wheelying all the time.
“But damn it, it’s a fantastic track. We’ll try to adjust as soon as possible, but one of them, we’ve had a lot of bad races.
“It’s time to have a good race and a perfect race. My mindset and way of thinking are positive because it is difficult to get worse.
“It’s the last race I want to enjoy in order to have good moments.”
