The anger and disappointment are evident and Le Mans left a bad taste in Marc Marquez ‘mouth. The Spaniard fell victim to not one, but two falls in a crazy French GP. First the highside on the last corner when he was leading the race, then the crash when he was busy making a super comeback.
On the Bugatti circuit, Magic Marc’s ambitions landed in the gravel, leaving the # 93 a bitter pill that seemed like a great opportunity in every way to get an amazing result.
“What can I say, I’m angry about how this race ended – Marc started – with the rain I still had a few chances to make a good GP, but also to finish on the ground at the same time. After the flag-to-flag, I felt good, even if the bike tended to slip a lot. The first time I fell, I warmed up the tires, was on the wet and landed on the ground. That can happen because many other riders have also crashed. On the other hand, I’m mad at the second fall because I pushed a lot and wasn’t 100% focused. In fact, I was thinking about the possibility of going back to the pits to use the dry tires, as well as over my body and in the end I crashed. I had to manage the race better and I didn’t.
As he himself pointed out, he is really angry about what happened.
“I’ve had a good weekend until this morning, but in the end it wasn’t a good GP for me. All of the Hondas crashed and I wasn’t doing well. I risked more than necessary if I didn’t have to risk and at the same time I did the opposite, namely to manage, than I could have done more. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish the race the way I should have done and unfortunately it went that way. The mentality is the same as always, we are not 100% so we have to improve.
Marc Marquez leaves Le Mans with zero points, the first time this season that the # 93 has not even scored a point.
“Unfortunately we wasted a good opportunity because I was able to be fast and competitive in the wet, so that I was in control of the race when I fell for the first time. The fact is that this race was more difficult to complete compared to Jerez and Portimao. With the previous two, you were immediately at the limit and then you knew how to control the situation. Here, on the other hand, you never know where the limit will be under these conditions. But apart from that, I have to criticize myself today because I felt good on the bike, could have ridden it and could have achieved a great result. Instead it didn’t happen because I couldn’t use it ”.
The eight-time world champion did not mince his words. Meanwhile, he is 64 points away from the top spot in the world rankings.
“As I said, I don’t think about the possibility of fighting for the world title regardless of whether I won today or just made it onto the podium or in the top 5. I have to work because I’m not at 100% at the moment and I have to make progress. Today, in dry conditions, I had already lost the best, while in wet conditions I could find the right sensations. I’ll take that home from this family doctor ”.
One of the key themes at this GP was the flag to flag. In fact, we saw Marc and Quartararo pitting together for the change.
“I drove next to him because he didn’t accelerate before the last corner and you win almost half a second there. When I changed the bike, I managed to overtake him when restarting, which worked more or less like in Formula 1 ”.
Now it’s off to Mugello …
“Unfortunately I have to keep working. I have come from a long period of inactivity and need to reach the top of my physical condition. Today it didn’t go in the right direction, also because I miss such races. “
