The race management decided to punish Fabio Quartararo with three seconds for completing the final laps of the Barcelona Grand Prix with an open suit and chest protection. The decision came after Ducati and Suzuki submitted a report asking for answers to what happened in the race.

The official statement: “During the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya it was observed that you were not properly fastened with your leather suit and that you were traveling without the required chest protection. […] The FIM MotoGP stewards imposed a three-second penalty for the race results of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya MotoGP race“.

With these additional three penalty seconds (Yamaha’s French had already got the same number for cutting through the first chicane) Quartararo falls back to 6th place in the ranking, behind Mir and Vinales, who each made up one position.

Of course, that also has an impact on the championship, because Fabio loses three points. While Zarco remains at the top of the rankings, he is now 14 points behind him, with Miller at 25 and Bagnaia at 27.
