SBK, Sharni Pinfold: “I’m stepping back. Lack of respect for women in racing. “

At the age of twenty-five, she decided to give up on her dream. Sharni Pinfolds is a story that should get the racing world to think about. She chose to hang her helmet because she despises an environment that despises women and is dominated by male chauvinism.

But let’s go in order just to summarize.

After her father passed away, the Australian rider decided to leave her country and compete in the English Moto3 championship thanks to the support of a sponsor and the money she had saved over time. This experience was a stepping stone to take part in three rounds of the European Women’s Cup in Imola and Misano, where Pinfold reached the top ten on tracks unknown to her.

S.then he made his debut in the SSP300 in the Smrz team in Magny-Cours. An unlucky weekend for Sharni, who fell in the last Chance race and broke her collarbone.

That was the last time we’d seen the Australian on a bike since she said goodbye to the world of racing on social media …

“Most of the challenges I faced were due to a lack of respect and derogatory treatment of women. Things I know I would never experience or would have been exposed to if I were a man. There comes a point where enough is enough, and I feel like I’ve reached that point. I feel like I no longer want to be exposed to or treated like this. That makes me deeply sad. I am deeply saddened to contemplate the challenges of my own journey and to acknowledge the fact that women who dedicate their lives to realizing their dreams are exposed to and treated in this way. This was the main reason for my decision to resign. “

But Sharni’s love of racing won’t end here:

“My love of sport continues and I’m not sure what the future holds for me. I am very proud of what I have achieved in this sport and I find it a shame that I have not yet been able to reach my full potential. I would like to thank everyone who supported me, gave me opportunities and the friends I made along the way. I hope that on my journey I will be able to help others and encourage them to know that they deserve everything they want. My wish for others is to know that no one has the right to make you feel unworthy or uncomfortable, or that you have to fire everything that doesn’t suit you.

With this post I would like to announce my decision to withdraw from motorsport. This decision was not an easy one for us …
