MotoGP, Bagnaia admits he has to start winning GPs if he is to beat Quartararo

A lot has happened in this crazy MotoGP summer: Vinales was suspended and then his contract was terminated; Yamaha had to pull Cal Crutchlow as a test driver from retirement and hire Jake Dixon, a Moto2 rider to replace him on the Petronas team that has since lost its sponsor.

All of this happened during Fabio Quartararo has extended his lead at the top of the World Cup with his two rivals Pecco Bagnaia and the reigning MotoGP champion Joan Mir, both hot on points in the pursuit.

These situations seem to strengthen, not weaken, the Frenchman, who has no difficulty in confirming: “I concentrate on my job. I don’t really care what happened to Vinales; I’m not sad, it’s an individual sport ”.

What worries Pecco and Me is the fact that Quartararo is having a great season, because if he doesn’t win, he’ll still bring the points home. Not only does he know how to attack, but he is also very good at defending.

“For this reason – explained Bagnaia – Joan and I have the same problems: to win this world championship we have to win more than one race. I won last year thanks to his consistent performance, but this year we have to stay ahead longer to get the same result. “

A view shared by the Suzuki world champion …

“Of course it’s important to make up points on Quartararo, but also to win a few races to boost our self-confidence. When you win a GP it is easier to win others and in any case you will not be able to beat Fabio without winning a few races ”.

Bagnaia is confident that he can do well at Silverstone.

“It’s a track I like and I think it fits a lot of different bikes. The power here can help and if Sector 1 and 3 are a very good fit for Yamaha I think 2 and 4 prefer Ducati and Honda. It can be a race like at Mugello where many drivers can be competitive “
