Not a brilliant start to the Misano Adriatico weekend for Fabio Quartararo. The French Yamaha rider is ready Seventh in the combined time table and 18th in the wet in FP2. Quartararo himself was incredulous at the afternoon result, remembering how his 2019 times, always wet in Misano, were much more competitive.
“We tried a completely different setting this afternoon. It was a little better. It’s a shame because I missed my last lap because I improved my lap time, but I didn’t even do one of my fastest sectors. It was a little better, but I still don’t feel comfortable on the bike. I feel like we’re taking a little step forward because my feeling is better, but I have zero feeling in the fast corners so it’s tough. Let’s see what we can do, but at the moment we are having a hard time. “
Do you have problems with the temperature of the tires?
“No, the problem is what I just said: I had a strange feeling when I looked at the data, the temperatures were good. We have to analyze, we found a setup and it felt a little better. ” We are still two seconds away from the top man, but for me our position is not real now. For me, our position was in the top 12 at the moment. But anyway, I did all my wet trainings in the top 10 in 2019 and I can’t understand why I can’t have that feeling again. “
Does this problem you are talking about only occur in fast corners or does it also occur in slow corners?
“Both, but I feel it much more strongly in the fast corners. This is the main problem. In the wet everything is more sensitive and I can say that I have no stability at the rear in the fast corners. Because of this, I don’t have a lot of trust. “
FP1 went a little better …
“The FP1 was quite difficult with the soft front tire. You always have to start the weekend with the soft front tire, even if it’s a tire that I don’t really like because it’s way too soft. The plan was to set up the medium in the afternoon, but it was not possible because of the rain ”.
How is the grip in wet conditions?
“I didn’t think the grip could be that bad and I think the water doesn’t drain well because it’s been raining all the time. This morning, shortly after it started to rain, it stopped and I had the feeling that the grip was pretty good. “
Andrea Dovizioso said he was impressed with your results …
“Dovi is a rider that I love, not just the rider he is but the person as well and I think he’s a rider who can give us a lot. He has a lot of experience with the Ducati so let’s hope really that he will. ” Give us tips about cycling. This kind of comment on my results is very nice especially from a driver like Dovi, he’s still a very popular rider in MotoGP ”.
