Jorge Martín already aiming for victory in Indonesia: ‘The Ducati is working better’

Jorge Martín entered the Indonesian MotoGP GP as the fourth fastest on Friday, with a time that left him 0.296s behind leader Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha). It was a first day that left the Pramac rider encouraged, even if he was aware that he had a complicated decision ahead of him in terms of tyres.

The Spanish rider was confident about his chances of a victory, with the Ducati Desmosedici GP22 working even better than at the test in Mandalika: ‘The Ducati is working better. I felt good during the test, but now I feel even better. I’m quite happy and confident for the weekend. FP1 was not great, but in FP2 we were very consistent and were very close to the front. I think we have something to try tomorrow that will help us and we will figure out how to be in the fight for the win.’

Regarding tires, Martin admitted that the choice will not be easy, although at this point he is aiming for the soft one: ‘They are new [the rear tyres with new casing], I’ve never tried them before. The medium is not good at all – with it you are like on ice. I spoke with Maverick [Viñales] other [Joan] Mir and they said the same. And with the soft there is a good grip, but the break is very big after two or three laps. So it will be a crucial choice here as well. I’m leaning towards the soft, but surely we’ll need to manage it. Tomorrow and in the race we’ll see.
