With RNF MotoGP opting for Aprilia, Yamaha found itself in the unprecedented situation of not having a satellite team in 2023 since the beginning of the MotoGP era. It is a situation with which it is resigned since there is not much that can be done for next year, but for 2024 it will be able to recover a secondary structure.
Massimo Meregalli, Yamaha team director, told a press conference that the RNF’s decision was a surprise, but it was accepted: ‘The fact that we lost the satellite team was not something we wanted. Basically we were surprised by the RNF decision, we accepted it and now there is not much to say about it’.
According to the official, at the beginning of next year, the issue of being able to have a satellite team again in 2024 will begin to be considered: ‘In 2023 we will only have the factory team, but it is certainly important to have a satellite team and most likely let’s start thinking about it for 2024 at the beginning of next year’.
