Monster Energy Yamaha already have their MotoGP seats locked up for the 2023 season with Fabio Quartararo (who has recently renewed) and Franco Morbidelli. For this reason, and also because there is no satellite team, it will not be able to take on Toprak Razgatlioglu next year unless there is a possible surprise departure of Morbidelli – which, although not ruled out, Niccolo Canepa believes is unlikely to happen.
GPOne.com asked the endurance rider about his opinion on the possibility of such a scenario happening. In his reply, Canepa stated that anything is possible, but he does not consider it to be realistic:
– Over the years we have seen all sorts of things. Just remember Maverick Viñales who had already won with Yamaha in mid-2021 and then decided to leave. Anything can happen, but I see it as difficult. In Yamaha, like me, everyone wants Franco to prove his worth by going back to going fast as he did in 2020, but on the other hand, anything can happen. For now, I don’t see it as a viable scenario.
