Lin Jarvis and the sprint races: ‘It will be difficult, especially for the riders’

The 2023 MotoGP season is marked by a fundamental novelty – the sprint races. Monster Energy Yamaha officially presented itself this Tuesday and the subject was discussed with its director Lin Jarvis.

Questioned at the Iwata team presentation event about this novelty, the Managing Director or Yamaha Motor Racing, who also is Team Principal for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP said: ‘It’s a good question. I think this year will be the toughest, or longest and toughest year ever in MotoGP. We have 21 races, we have ten races outside Europe and 11 inside Europe. It will start on March 26th and will end in November. But also this year there is a new weekend format, there is a new sprint race on Saturday. That race will be half the distance and award half the points, but it means 42 races for our team and our riders. This is going to be tough. Anyway, we’ll do our best. I think it will be difficult, especially for the riders, but for the fans there will be even more races to see’.

Jarvis added: ‘It’s going to be very tough for everyone, I think. But anyway, we’re ready. We’re going to try and if we can bring more spectacle to the fans, that’s the most important thing’.
