The Suzuki Ecstar team worked on the engine they are developing for 2022 during the MotoGP tests at Misano. Joan Mir had the chance to try it out, and while it’s still in its early stages, he believes it could be a win for improving one of the team’s Achilles heels – qualifying performance.
I told the press that more leeway in qualifying could bring better results: “I think the big difference in qualifying is that when we turn up all the power, we always go at almost full power. So if we still have some room to improve in the next year, we’ll be in the second row with two tenths of a second – or sometimes even in the first row.
The Spaniard believes that with the new engine it is possible to find these improvements, although it is not without its drawbacks: “If this engine can help us find those two tenths on all the straights of the track, that is possible and” it is will help us in qualifying. Of course there is more consumption when there is more power and, like the others, we will have difficulties on routes with more consumption. But it will show for qualifying.
