‘When you change bike, you definitely have to change the way you ride’ – Andrea Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso competed eight seasons with Ducati in MotoGP. Now, he is taking the steps back to Yamaha since the end of last year, having to adapt to a very different YZR-M1 from the one he had in 2012 – being the opposite of what one of his colleagues did in Borgo Panigale.

Asked if he has to do the opposite to Jorge Lorenzo, adapting to a Yamaha bike after competing for Ducati, the #04 replied: ‘Yes, surely you have to do it, this is competition in MotoGP. Especially when you change bikes and the two bikes go in opposite directions you definitely have to change’.

Regarding Lorenzo’s case in particular, Dovizioso said that the Spaniard managed to adapt, retaining something of his riding style – which he considers to be the ideal combination:

– Jorge started to be competitive when he changed, in my opinion, his mental approach and rode differently than at Yamaha, not trying to ride like Yamaha. But he got something of his riding style – that’s why I say I think it’s very important to adapt because in the current MotoGP with the tyres, brakes, electronics, chassis, it’s very clear what you have to do in each bike, but all riders have different talent and experience and they all have something special. So you have to try to maintain and use your riding style – you have to understand in what percentage.
