King of the Ring – Marquez makes it a perfect ten in Germany

With the perfect strategy, Marc Marquez continued his perfect pole-to-victory record at GermanGP when Bradl reached his goal among the top ten.

A gloomy start to the proceedings at the German GP did not deter the local fans, who filled the Sachsenring grandstands from the start. Mixed conditions for the morning warm-up limited the running time, but Marc Marquez was able to lead the session with team-mate Stefan Bradl and take a strong fifth place.

With a characteristically strong start, Marquez led through Turn One when the lights went out for the 30-lap GP in Germany. Back-to-back lap records on laps four and five, a 1’21,228 on lap five of his fastest lap, signaled that Marquez wasn’t interested in a fighting victory. The new lap record helped him extend his lead to over half a second. From here there was no looking back as the reigning world champion steadily expanded his lead to cross the line 4.5 seconds before second place for the 75th victory of his Grand Prix career and his 49th victory in the premier class .

The win is Marquez’s tenth victory in a row at the Sachsenring, a level of dominance that no other driver has achieved in modern times. Today’s win marks Marquez’s seventh visit to the top step of the premier class podium on the German track, matching Valentino Rossi’s record of direct wins at Mugello.

Stefan Bradl was the author of a constant race that drove steadily in the mid-22s as he chased the group that continuously battled for the top ten. The home driver finished in 11th place from Pol Espargaro towards the end of the race and moved up to tenth place shortly afterwards. This ended a successful weekend for Bradl, who replaced the injured Jorge Lorenzo with the German and Repsol Honda Team abele in order to achieve all of the main goals for the weekend.

Cal Crutchlow took two Honda RC213V machines onto the podium with a well-deserved third place.

Marquez is now going into the summer break with 185 championship points, 58 ahead of second-placed Dovizioso. The win also increases Honda’s lead in the constructors’ championship to 34 points over Ducati.

The MotoGP World Championship now has a short summer break before the races return at the Czech GP from August 2-4.
