After the titles last year, the Suzuki Ecstar team lost their team boss Davide Brivio, who switched from MotoGP to Formula 1. However, 2020 champion Joan Mir does not see this as the cause of the expected underperformance this year, where after nine races there was still no victory and only three podiums – all of them achieved by him.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, the Spaniard from Palma de Mallorca downplayed the impact of the Italian’s departure on current results, attributing it to the lack of such a big improvement as other manufacturers:
– I do not think so. I think it’s right that Davide did a great job here at Suzuki. But I think it’s more like they couldn’t find an improvement, a technical improvement, as big an advance as the others. That doesn’t mean Suzuki don’t work – they work. And Davide wasn’t the one who made the specs. In this case, I tend to think that they need to keep improving because we’ve seen others do better.
