BaT Auction: 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR

BaT Auction: 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR

This 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR is powered by a 989cc V4 mated to a six-speed transmission and finished in red with white stripes. One of of 1,500 produced, it features a sandcast crankcase and cylinder heads, titanium valves and connecting rods, gear-driven cams, a dry slipper clutch, carbon fiber bodywork, a replacement Ducati Corse multifunction display, street equipment, forged magnesium wheels, Öhlins suspension, and Brembo brakes. The bike was acquired by the seller in 2010, and service in preparation for the sale included installation of a new battery as well as an oil change. This Desmosedici RR is offered with manuals, sales literature, a tool kit, a numbered plaque, a factory rear wheel stand, and a California title in the seller’s name.

Based on the GP6 MotoGP race bike, the Desmosedici RR sported a dry weight of 377 pounds and featured carbon fiber bodywork that was only available in Rosso GP red with white graphics. Additional features include a solo racing seat and a tail section that is made of a ceramic-carbon blend and houses the exhaust silencer. Street equipment consists of mirrors, turn signals, a license plate bracket, a side stand, and a horn.

Forged magnesium Marchesini wheels are finished in black and wear older Bridgestone Battleax tires measuring 120/70-17 front and 200/55-16 rear. Öhlins suspension consists of a titanium nitride-coated 43mm inverted fork that features preload, rebound, and high/low compression adjustments as well as a dual-sided swingarm mounted to an adjustable PRXB monoshock. Brembo brakes include dual 330mm discs with four-piston radial calipers up front and a single 240mm rotor with a two-piston conventional caliper in the rear.

Instrumentation is provided by a Ducati Corse multifunction display that is said to have been replaced at 1,700 miles and includes a 16k-rpm graph tachometer, a digital speedometer, and readouts for ambient air and engine temperature as well as time of day. The digital odometer shows 400 miles ridden by the seller, though total mileage is unknown. The bike is equipped with an Öhlins steering damper, and a plaque on the upper triple clamp lists it as #369 of 1,500 produced.

The 989cc “Twin Pulse” desmodromic V4 was factory-rated at 197 horsepower with 85 lb-ft of torque and features a 90-degree configuration with a sandcast crankcase and cylinder heads, titanium valves and connecting rods, and gear-driven cams. A new battery, coolant, and oil were added in preparation for the sale.

Power is transferred to the rear wheel through a dry multi-plate slipper clutch, a six-speed transmission, and a drive chain.

Owner’s manuals, sales literature, tools, a numbered plaque with the original owner’s name, and a factory rear wheel stand are included in the sale.
