2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR On Sale At Iconic Motorbike Auctions
Although the Desmosedici RR was one of the very few MotoGP-spec bikes on sale at the time, it wasn’t exactly what you’d call mesmerizing. But regardless, a lot of the credit here goes to the fact that Ducati basically kept the aesthetics exactly like their MotoGP project, thanks to which most people even called it a MotoGP race bike with headlights and mirrors.
The design did stand out though, and when coupled with the exceptional build quality (it was hand-crafted, after all) and a unique tail-integrated exhaust, simply made it an exquisite affair.
Then came the mechanicals. The Desmosedici RR was Ducati’s first foray into the four-cylinder engine category after a long history of twin-cylinder mills. Using a specially designed, MotoGP-derived 989cc, V4 engine, the bike put out over 195 horsepower.
While the engine was specially designed for this project, the steel trellis frame, Öhlins suspension, and the top-shelf Brembo brakes were all directly borrowed from Ducati’s MotoGP race bike.
Additionally, the elaborate use of carbon fiber for the fairings, fenders, and the subframe helped it tip the scales at just 377 pounds (dry). Credit here also goes to the 17/16-inch (F/R) Marchesini forged magnesium wheels which, alone cost $20,000.
As you’d expect for a novelty like this, the miles are low on the odo (3814 miles) and there aren’t many aftermarket mods to mention, except for the rear spools and a Ducati tank pad. You will also receive a new Marchesini M7R alloy wheel with the motorcycle.
What’s the price?
During its fairly short life, the Ducati Desmosedici RR was priced at over $70,000 (new). However since this is an auction, you can put in your bid and have a go yourself. For reference, the last bid (at the time of writing) was $45,000 and the reserve price wasn’t met, so be sure to make a suitable offer.
