Takaaki Nakagami Biography
Takaaki Nakagami got his kickstart with the initiative of the Red Bull MotoGP Academy. This made him the youngest ever winner of the Japanese 125cc championship in 2006. In 2007 he made his way to the Spanish series under the banner of the academy. At the 2008 World Cup, he secured his best result of the year with a top ten result in Donington. He continued the championship in 2009.
Nakagami took a two-year hiatus from the World Championship and made a stellar comeback in 2011 when he won the Japanese Moto2 title. He was called up as a reserve driver by the Italtrans team at the Japan GP. He joined the team full-time in 2012 and almost took his first race win in 2013 when he finished second four times in a row mid-season.
The Chiba native moved to Idemitsu Honda Team Asia in 2014 and had a difficult start. He then recovered and secured a podium win in Assen the next year. By the end of 2017, he had eight podiums and two poles. Nakagami signed with LCR Honda Idemitsu in the premier class the next year. He was the best rookie in qualifying and got nine top ten finishes. In 2020, Nakagami took 10th place. This time in 2021 he has high hopes of tackling the podium.
