Marc Marquez will open the Qatar GP this weekend

The medical team has unanimously concluded that the Spaniard needs more time to recover before getting back into action.

Marc Marquez will not take part in the season opener.

MotoGP top gun Marc Marquez will not compete this weekend in Qatar. The Spaniard’s medical team at Hospital Ruber Internacional made a conscious decision and determined that it would be inadvisable for Marquez to go back into action due to his condition.

Led by doctors Samuel Antuña and Ignacio Roger de Oña, the team carried out a review of Marquez’s condition. The team also consisted of doctors De Miguel, Ibarzabal and García Villanueva. They concluded that 15 weeks after surgery, due to an infected pseudoarthrosis of the right humerus, after intensifying his exercise, a good clinical response was noted.

Even so, given the timing and current state of the bone consolidation process, doctors consider it prudent and necessary not to rush the Repsol Honda Team rider’s return to the track after such an inactive period. This also avoids exposing the humerus to intense competition.

Marquez will have another medical evaluation on Monday April 12th.

“After the last check with the medical team, the doctors told me that it would be wise not to compete in the Qatar Grand Prix and to continue with the recovery plan that has been in place over the past few weeks. I would have loved to have taken part in the opening race of the World Cup, but we need to keep working to restore the optimal conditions that will allow us to get back to competition. “
