MK Dons celebrates Mir’s MotoGP title with a one-off jersey

I ended a 20-year title drought for Suzuki last year when he won the 2020 MotoGP crown in a race after taking a Grand Prix win and a total of seven podiums.

Suzuki has been MK Don’s title sponsor since 2014. To celebrate Mir’s championship win, the League One team will wear a one-off kit against Oxford United this weekend.

Fans can win some of the shirts worn by the match through a charity prize draw. The funds will go to the MK Dons Sports and Education Fund and the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity.

“We have a great relationship with the MK Dons and it will be very special when our MotoGP World Championships are celebrated on the front of their jerseys this weekend,” said Paul de Lusignan, Director of Suzuki GB.

“In MotoGP, Joan Mir won the rider’s title, while Team Suzuki won the team championship, which highlighted the performance of Mir and our GSX-RR.

“We hope that the MK Dons in the commemorative shirt will be successful this weekend and that we will have something to celebrate together.”

Andy Wooldridge, MK Dons Commercial Director, added, “When I speak to the Suzuki team, I can feel the immense pride that everyone at Suzuki has in this accomplishment.

“We are pleased that we can support this and at the same time raise money for local purposes.”

Mir’s title win made him the sixth rider in MotoGP history to win the biggest motorcycle award for Suzuki and join an illustrious list of Barry Sheene, Marco Lucchinelli, Franco Uncini, Kevin Schwantz and Kenny Roberts Jr.

The Spaniard was also nominated for a Laureus Prize in the “World Breakthrough of the Year” category.

I’m staying with Suzuki for this season, along with Alex Rins. The pair reveal their 2021 challenger on March 6 at the team’s official launch event ahead of the pre-season testing opening day.
