Joan Mir’s 2020 MotoGP World Championship win was one of the surprise packages in all sports – and MK Dons will celebrate it against Oxford United this weekend.

Title Sponsor Suzuki drove Mir to his first motorcycle racing crown and its first since Kenny Roberts Jnr won the title in 2000.

A banner marking the championship victory is already on the seats at the Cowshed behind the gate at Stadium MK, and this weekend Dons will be wearing a different jersey to recognize the team’s achievements.

Pete Winkelman, Chairman of MK Dons, said: “We are delighted to recognize Suzuki after a wonderful performance and to celebrate with him. We are very proud to have Suzuki as our title partner and equally proud to share their success in this special way. ”

Paul de Lusignan, Director at Suzuki GB said: “We have a great relationship with the MK Dons and it will be very special when our MotoGP World Championships are celebrated on the front of their jerseys this weekend.

“In MotoGP, Joan Mir won the rider’s title, while Team Suzuki won the team championship, which highlighted the performance of Mir and our GSX-RR. We hope that the MK Dons in the commemorative shirt will be successful this weekend and that we will have something to celebrate together. “

Andy Wooldridge, MK Dons Commercial Manager, added: “When I speak to the Suzuki team, I can feel the immense pride that everyone at Suzuki has in this accomplishment. We are happy that we can support this and at the same time raise money for local purposes. “

MK Dons fans and MotoGP enthusiasts have the opportunity to win some of the jerseys worn by the match in a special raffle. The funds generated will go to the MK Dons Sports and Education Fund and the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity. All details have yet to be confirmed
