2021 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP: Everything We Know

The Honda CBR1000RR has been around for 15 years and has become an integral part of the Japanese sport bike segment alongside the popular R1s, Gixxers and Ninjas. However, it seems like the RR and its 191 hp (number reported by MCN) wasn’t radical enough. It took a shot more R. So Honda introduced a version of the CBR for steroids, the new CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP. The new Honda Sportbike flagship will land in North American showrooms as a model in 2021. While we wait for the arrival to come, let’s take a look at everything we know about it.

Adding a third R (fourth if you include that in “CBR”) is the Fire Blade’s ticket across the pond. After the Fireblade nameplate has been part of the European sport bike landscape for over 25 years, it comes to America and is struck on the fairing of the new CBR1000RR-R SP.

The RR-R increases the RR in a number of ways, including price. Honda announced that the new 2021 Fireblade will retail for $ 28,500 – a $ 12,000 premium over the entry-level CBR1000RR. What do you get with the additional $ 12,000? To put it simply: a MotoGP bike approved for the street.

The model is the closest (street legal) relative of the MotoGP RC213V-S from Honda Racing Corporation (HRC). The designers and engineers took a few pages out of the HRC book and applied track-inspired solutions to the design of the Fireblade to improve efficiency and reduce friction. Among other things, this results in a more compact block that is equipped with titanium connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and finger-follower rocker arms.

Speaking of the engine: the new power pack is a liquid-cooled 999 cm3 DOHC in-line quad (compared to the 998 cm3 engine of the RR) with a slightly larger bore (81 mm) and a slightly shorter stroke (48.5 mm). The new engine has an output of 215 horsepower at 14,500 rpm and a torque of 83 lb-ft at 12,500 rpm and can reach a top speed of (at least) 186 mph – the digital speedometer stops at 186 mph , but when Young machine Recently documented in a video, the bike appears to have the ability to accelerate beyond this mark.

Under the fairing, the Fireblade is based on a new aluminum-diamond chassis designed to increase vertical and torsional stiffness and decrease horizontal stiffness, which Honda says should give the bike more grip and better handling. The fairing itself has winglets derived from the track that are designed to increase downforce. The Fireblade also comes with a longer aluminum swingarm – another feature inherited from its MotoGP counterpart – and an Akrapovič titanium muffler. Fully loaded and ready to use, the model weighs 443 pounds.

The suspension includes a 43mm Öhlins fork with 4.3 “of travel and a single Pro-Link shock with 5.6” that attaches to a set of 17 “wheels. Braking power is provided by 330mm discs with Brembo Stylema calipers in the front and a 220mm disc with a single caliper in the rear.

For road-friendly technicians, the Fireblade has a six-axis inertia measurement unit, a three-stage electronic steering damper from Honda, selectable torque control, second-generation Öhlins Smart Electronic Control, a quick-shift lever, an adjustable start mode and wheelie control. Hidden behind the windshield, a color TFT display allows the driver to navigate through the settings and customize their experience.

Honda expects the 2021 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP to be available in June 2020.
