2019 Jerez World Superbike test results – Jonathan Rea (KRT) set the fastest WorldSBK time of the two-day test in Jerez de la Frontera, his compatriot Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) finished second.

The fastest time of all was set by HRC MotoGP test rider Stefan Bradl on Michelins, but of all WorldSBK riders in Spain, Rea set the best lap with a 1’39.160 – just 0.008 from Bradl.

Lowes bet a 1’39,372 for a qualifier after testing a maze of new settings and some new pieces. Lowes has survived all the planned work and is now driving to Portimao in the hope of being there as quickly as possible.

Rea had tried a qualifying tire on the final day but he did a faster lap on a race tire, as did his teammate Leon Haslam, who scored a 1,39,502 for third overall.

The much better track conditions on the second day, partly due to the better weather conditions, allowed more drivers to settle in after what for some was a particularly gray and unsettling first day. The partially re-asphalted track improved on the racetrack and enabled the best times when the new asphalt was embedded.

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) placed fourth in the transition from MotoGP to WorldSBK on the brand new Ducati V4R. According to the Ducati Official Team, Chaz Davies suffered a muscle spasm in his back that prevented him from riding for most of the second day and he finished tenth.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was impressive again in fifth, but rookie WorldSBK rider Sandro Cortese (GRT Yamaha) overcame his first WorldSBK crash to set the sixth fastest Superbike time and the second fastest Yamaha on the final day -Being a driver.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha) finished seventh and Marco Melandri (GRT Yamaha) eighth.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi’s Barni Racing Ducati V4R put him in ninth place on day two. Eugene Laverty placed his GoEleven Ducati in 12th place.

With a transponder now mounted on his brand new machine, Tom Sykes (BMW SMR) fell at high speed and his bike was too badly damaged to take a full day of action. He was uninjured, but this fall left him in 14th place and slower than his pace on the first day when he didn’t have a transponder installed.

16 drivers took part in the Jerez test, with only the official Moriwaki Althea Hondas from Leon Camier and Ryuichi Kiyonari missing.

The fastest WorldSSP rider was Federico Caricasulo on a Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha with a 1’42.529.

Almost all of the Superbike teams that have been to Jerez will now move to Portimao for two more days of testing on Sunday and Monday, January 27th and 28th.

DAY ONE TEST RESULTS

Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) set the fastest lap of the first meaningful day of the 2019 World Superbike track test in Jerez, in which most of the main competitors participated. Only the Moriwaki Althea Honda team – the HRC side of the Althea garage – was missing when they ran their tests in Asia.

According to his team, Lowes put the fastest day into a run on the track once, with his 1’40,442 being 0.008 seconds faster than Rea’s best.

Lowes said of the re-surfaced areas of the track: “There are some (new) bumps in turn eight, but to be honest it wasn’t that bumpy track and it doesn’t break up so that’s good. I’ve made some improvements to the suspension setup in the direction we took in November. I also tried a few things today that were pretty interesting, some obviously worse and a bit out of the window we love to work in, then it came back and it felt pretty good. We have to keep working on it tomorrow. “

Leon Haslam was third fastest on the second official Kawasaki.

Both KRT riders were late starters, as the heavily paved corners were quite “green” at the beginning and remained so offline that the 27 riders (from WorldSSP and one from MotoGP) gradually cleaned the new asphalt lap by lap.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was still fourth fastest on a mostly 2018 spec machine out of three top Yamaha machines.

Michael van der Mark, now with a significantly improved wrist injury that didn’t hold him back that much, finished fifth, GRT Yamaha rider Marco Melandri sixth and his team-mate and new superbike rider Sandro Cortese seventh.

The official HRC test pilot Stefan Bradl broke the stream of WorldSBK drivers and came in eighth.

After Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Ducati) made a strong recovery after surgery to repair his badly injured collarbone, he finished ninth and Alvaro Bautista tenth.

Federico Caricasulo (Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha) was the top super sport driver and finished 15th overall.

Although Tom Sykes did not drive any transponders at the beginning of the day for technical reasons, he is said to have driven a lap of 1: 40.8 with his brand new BMW S1000RR, which, if he were accurate, would put him in third place like Leon Haslam or fourth overall. Transponder problems should be overcome on the second day, according to sources.

There is still one day left of the Jerez test and then another test will take place in Portimao, Portugal before the end of January.
