MotoGP: Joan Mir renews herself with Suzuki until 2022 – Roadracing World Magazine

SUZUKI CONFIRMS JOAN MIR RENEWAL FOR 2021 AND 2022

Team Suzuki Ecstar and Suzuki Racing Company are pleased to announce that Joan Mir will remain in blue colors for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The news of the extension of his contract comes shortly after that of Alex Rins, who will also be on the team until 2022. The pairing provides Suzuki with a solid and competitive unit as they look to the future and achieve high results.

Joan Mir made his MotoGP debut with the Suzuki Ecstar team in 2019 after a hugely successful Moto3 season in 2017 in which he was crowned champion. The 22-year-old, who comes from Palma de Mallorca, made it through the ranks quickly at the beginning of his career and also proved to be a quick learner on his debut in the top class. He did well with his new team and secured 8th place in his first race in Suzuki colors. In 2019, he scored another nine top 10 finishes despite a mid-season injury.

After fully recovering, Joan took an impressive fifth place at Phillip Island last season. In the pre-2020 tests, he showed fantastic form and speed with the latest generation of the GSX-RR.

The current situation in connection with the Covid-19 crisis currently offers a strange environment for both the team and the driver with so much uncertainty in the air. However, this latest announcement ensures that the future remains firmly in view and demonstrates the confidence that Team Suzuki Ecstar has in their young rider.

Shinichi Sahara – Project Leader:

“We are proud to have reached an agreement with Mir with Rins and to maintain the current line-up. This gives us a continuity that will be very helpful for development from a technical point of view. The consistency of keeping the same drivers is very important as it helps us keep track of the progress made and stay on the right track. Also, Joan is a talented driver, he has shown strong skills already last year and we believe that once his experience grows, he will have some important achievements with our team. “

Davide Brivio:

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Joan Mir and let him complete our roster for the next two years. We consider Joan to be a very talented rider and it is important to keep going together to take full advantage of the experience we have gained so far and try to improve even further. We are also happy to have a young team with two very strong drivers like Alex and Joan, which has always been our real goal. So we can look to the future with confidence.

“I would like to thank Joan for entrusting us with his future and the entire Suzuki Motor Corporation for supporting us. The ability to extend agreements with Alex Rins and Joan Mir at such an extraordinary and strange moment in history is a sign that gives us great hopes for the future and encourages all fans to look forward with positivity and optimism to me hope to get back on track as soon as possible. “

Joan Mir:

“I’m very excited to sign with Suzuki for another two years – renewal is the best thing that can happen and it’s a dream come true again! It’s really important for me to keep going because now I have more time to study and more time to show my potential. Two years can go by quickly, but I am ready to move on to a higher level and we work every day to make that happen. I am also personally very satisfied because I have a really good team and a good crew around me. I really want to thank everyone at Suzuki for their trust in me and see if I can get the results we are capable of. “
