MotoGP, Quartararo: “A weight off my shoulders after my first win with the factory Yamaha”

The MotoGP Championship 2021 began under the sign of the official Yamaha team which won the first two GPs of the season in Qatar with Vinales and Quartararo and now wants to continue its positive series in Portugal.

Quartararo is hoping for a good result, although he didn’t shine at Portimao last season. He finished his weekend in 14th place. The Frenchman is currently second overall with 36 points, just like Vinales.

“Winning the second race in Doha was fantastic! – explained the French – After collecting my first win with the Factory team, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. After the first, I feel like I can focus even better on the task ahead, but it also makes me even more excited for this weekend. Last year I had a difficult race on the Portimao circuit. It’s different from all the other tracks, but that also makes it interesting. I am very curious to see if we can be as fast as in Qatar this weekend. “

As already mentioned, his team-mate is in second place in the overall standings along with Quartararo Vinales, who won the opening race of the season and finished 5th on the second weekend in Losail. Last year the Spaniard finished 11th in the Portimao race but is confident that he can improve his result for 2020 this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to this race weekend – said the Spaniard – I really like the Portimao circuit. It is a challenge. Last year we didn’t go as high as we wanted, but I really enjoyed this race because this track has a lot of places to overtake. I like this type of circuit, it makes it very exciting. In last year’s race I had a good rhythm especially towards the end, So this weekend we’ll be concentrating on getting this feeling right at the start of the race. “
