MotoGP: Joan Mir’s recovery extended, Sylvain Guintoli to ride in his place at Silverstone – Roadracing World Magazine

JOAN ME MISS THE UK GP

* The driver takes no chances and focuses on full recovery for the next GP.

* Team SUZUKI ECSTAR test driver Sylvain Guintoli will replace him at Silverstone.

Joan Mir will not be participating in the upcoming British Grand Prix which will be held at the Silverstone circuit this Sunday 25th August. The Spanish driver suffered an accident during the final test in Brno that forced him to miss the Austrian GP and recover for two weeks.

His presence in England has now been ruled out as he has not been able to recover 100% from the pulmonary contusion he had suffered, as well as a feeling of general weakness due to lack of training since the accident.

This decision was made between the rider, the doctors of the internal medicine team of the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona, led by Ángel Charte (Medical Director of the MotoGP World Championship) and the SUZUKI ECSTAR team. A new series of hospital controls, including a round of radiological tests, was performed to determine the degree of involvement of the affected lung.

Although the tests were positive and Mir’s general health is quite good, the doctors advised the driver as a precaution not to hurry during the recovery phase and instead start training normally in order to improve his physical condition and thus be able to participate in the next Grand Prix in better physical condition.

After an assessment of Mir’s physical situation, Dr. Angel Charte: “After the tests we carried out, we discovered some residual debris in the lungs. For safety reasons, we think the best thing is that he doesn’t return yet and he will recover 100% first ”.

From now on he will return to his normal work at home, where he can start active rehabilitation. “Now, after several weeks of inactivity, he has to restore lung capacity and strengthen his overall condition. To do this, he can start to run, run, do some exercises in the mountains and only ride a motorcycle to a limited extent, ”adds the doctor.

The SUZUKI ECSTAR team will replace the Mallorcan driver with test driver Sylvain Guintoli, who is currently doing an official test on the Finnish circuit of Kymiring near Kouvola.

Davide Brivio:

“It’s a shame that Joan has to miss the Silverstone race too, but we think it’s very important that he recovers fully and is 100% fit again. After talking to the doctors after his check-ups today, we made the decision together that he would miss the British Grand Prix and get back on his bike next week instead. The Misano test is a great opportunity for him to check his physical condition and calmly get back on the bike so he can get that MotoGP feeling back. This test will also be a unique opportunity to prepare for the next GP. Hopefully we have Joan 100% fit for the Misano race weekend and are ready to restart his season. Because of this, our test driver Sylvain Guintoli, who is currently testing in Finland, will replace Joan and we will try to use this weekend to get very valuable information. ”

Joan Mir:

“In the end I won’t be able to be at Silverstone for the next race and it’s a real shame, but it is and my health has to be my first priority. After the accident, I rested for a few weeks, first in the hospital and then at home. I started running but after the tests it seems that I am still not 100%. Doctors have determined that it is better to continue with my rehabilitation. I will train a little more so that I can get to the next race in better physical shape and not have to take too many risks. I would like to thank the people who are next to me and who take care of me, my Suzuki team for their concern and the thousands of fans who have encouraged me and showed me tremendous affection over all these days. See you soon!”
