Quartararo will undergo arm pump surgery after the MotoGP race in Jerez

The Frenchman comfortably led the race in Jerez when his pace suddenly slowed halfway and dropped to 13th place at the finish.

Quartararo, who led the championship before the weekend in Jerez, had undergone arm pump surgery back in 2019 but said Sunday was the first time he was affected on the Spanish circuit.

When asked how he will deal with the problem, Quartararo said: “I have no idea, I cannot answer this question because my brain is not working right now.

“I think too much so I prefer not … I have people who are already looking, my manager, my best friend, trying to find the best options.

“I have no idea, I’m sure something is planned because it’s not okay, my arm is not okay. In Portugal it was a disaster last year, this year was perfect. Here [at Jerez] I’ve never had a problem in my life, this year I have a problem.

“I don’t understand. We’re still looking, but there are too many options. My brain is full of people telling me to go to one place, the other. And right now I’m lost. “

The Yamaha rider had won the last two races in Doha and Portugal and started the Jerez race there from pole position.

On Tuesday Quartararo was successfully operated on in the CH Aix en Provence hospital for chronic stress compartment syndrome.

Yamaha said he expected to be fully fit for his home race in France.

“Everything is okay, only one goal is the next race at home,” wrote Quartararo on Twitter.

The French Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2021 season, will take place on May 16 at the Le Mans circuit.

Despite the disappointing result in Jerez, Quartararo is only two points behind championship leader Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia.
