Marc Marquez “destroyed” after the MotoGP race in Jerez

The Honda rider had a major fall while left-handed at Turn 7 in FP3 on Saturday, which required a visit to the hospital after having a brief memory problem.

Marquez was cleared for the race – despite crashing again in warm-up on Sunday – and managed to finish the second Grand Prix of his comeback in ninth after an injury.

Although the result is “not the goal”, he was overall happy with the weekend that he felt physically better during the race in Jerez than in Portugal – although he said his neck and back muscles were damaged from his fall in the third Race is hurt.

“The most important thing is, I felt better this weekend, but today, ok, I feel destroyed, but after yesterday’s crash – not because of the arm,” said Marquez.

“It’s more about the muscles in the back and neck.

“This is also a very good thing that is improving in a good way.”

He added: “Of course I am happy today. Of course, it’s not the result that I would like to be, and it’s not the goal.

“But this weekend I felt better on the bike and I suffered from my physical condition, but I suffered less than Portimao.

“It is true that I had a big fall yesterday and then we start today as the 14th.

“My neck is completely closed, but that’s part of racing. The thing is, if you start in 14th place on the first few laps, you can lose a lot of time. That’s exactly what happened.

“Then I started the race and tried to be faster on the laps, and that’s what I did. In part of the race I think [Maverick] Vinales, [Johann] Zarco and I were the fastest on the track.

“But then I can already see that my physical condition was weakening during these lap times and when there were eight laps left, I more or less gave up.

“But happy because we have taken another step.

“It is true that now this weekend I am starting to check and feel where we need to work with the bike and this is another important point because we can still improve.”

MotoGP will stay in Jerez for a day of testing on Monday and Marquez plans to ride depending on how he feels in the morning.

But he expects this to be the only bike training he will have before the next round in France.

“My plan is to do a few laps in the test tomorrow, when I get up in good shape,” he said.

“If I say a few laps, I don’t know for sure, but it can be around 30, 40.

“I also need to understand my physical condition. Then the last day before Le Mans should be.

“I’ll train tomorrow, then I’ll have the doctor’s check on Wednesday. There you will decide whether I can increase my work at home a little. “
