MotoGP, From Marquez to Vinales: riders on the verge of a nervous breakdown

How much more important is our brain than our physical condition? A lot, sure. In sport as in life the psychological aspect is not form but substance. A broken leg or arm is certainly an obstacle, but it cannot stop us if we are willing to do whatever we can to overcome the impairment.

In some cases, even running the gauntlet forges our character and prepare us for higher goals. And who has already experienced that The feeling of loneliness that comes with any restriction cannot be called complete.

Naturally, There are those who get out of this state and those who don’t. Getting out of the quicksand is exhausting and you may not have the energy afterward. So you can decide whether to stop or continue with the last drop of energy.

Only eight races have passed since the start of the season, we’re not even halfway there, on paper there are still eleven laps, if the pandemic allows, and you can already guess in the words of some of the MotoGP protagonists those emerging from the crisis and those who have just entered one instead. Read these explanations to find out …

Marquez: “I appreciate my past victories, but I like the present more”

“In all sports there are moments that affect you more than others. I remember Rafa Nadal returning to success after a knee injury that would have hampered their careers for many players than his many victories. An athlete lives for his passions and I give everything for that. The past, my victories, I really appreciate them, but I like the present much better. To be able to wage a little war against the drivers who are ahead today. This victory makes up for the pain. Things happen, nothing is impossible with additional motivation.

Vinales: “I have no intention of adapting, I want a bike for myself that is good for me”

“It can’t be like that. Each driver has to have his own setup. It can’t be that I’ve been using my teammate’s setup for two years. Every driver has his setup, his style and every day they teach me to drive here. Take the brake, don’t take it, accelerate, don’t open … It’s very difficult for a driver. I have to be patient and I don’t want Fabio’s setup. It will be good for him but not for me, I have no intention of adapting, I want a bike for myself that will work well for me. At some point there comes a time when you, the driver, say that this seems disrespectful to you.

Quartararo: “I’d rather focus on my rivals in the overall standings than on Yamaha”

“I had good pace but I knew it would be difficult to get on the podium, so I focused on finishing the race well and trying to finish ahead of Ducatis if possible. With this win, Marquez gained a lot of confidence, we have to keep an eye on him, Miguel and the three Ducatis for the rest of the championship. I think they are trying different setups with Vinales, but I prefer to focus on my results now. Vinales is certainly an excellent rider, but I prefer to focus on my rivals in the overall standings rather than Yamaha. “

Oliveira: “Without these difficulties that make you leave your comfort zone, I wouldn’t be here now”

“I’m someone who prefers to look to the future rather than the past and I think it’s the right way to approach this championship too. It was tough in the beginning, but maybe I wouldn’t be here now without these troubles that are making you step out of your comfort zone. Of course, the recent excellent results don’t mean we won’t keep working hard, we will try to keep podiums and points to move up the rankings. At the moment, however, I am concentrating less on the math of the points in the overall standings and more on improving race by race. “

Bagnaia: “I haven’t been on the podium for 4 races, I have to get back on it quickly”

“It’s nice to see 4 or 5 different, very strong manufacturers. Miguel is one of the most talented drivers, he’s another one who can fight for the championship and Marc is back to victory. I have to get up quickly. Me, me I can’t see the glass half full, I’m on the works team and can’t be happy about finishing 5th.

P. Espargarò: “I think from now on I will just try to copy Marc’s setup”

“I think I’ll just try to copy Marc’s setup, Marc’s Chassis, from now on, because he uses different setups than we do. I’ll copy what he does. Up until that point, we weren’t far off the pace, from the lap times, but this race is a step forward. I’m obviously very happy for the team and for all the guys who have worked so hard, even for Marc. But the point is that Marc definitely shows the performance of the bike today, and I need to be on an equal footing with him.
