Repsol Honda Explains Why MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez Born …

Repsol Honda has revealed more details about the surgery Marc Marquez had on his problematic arm, revealing that he had contracted an infection that hampered the slow healing process for the multiple title winner.

Five months after the Jerez accident, which dashed his hopes for a seventh MotoGP World Championship less than a full race into the shortened 2020 MotoGP season, Marquez underwent two surgeries – once immediately after the incident and another week afterwards – before he had a third operation on December 3rd [Thursday].

The procedure – which lasted eight hours – was to treat an infection called pseudarthrosis, which can occur for several reasons, but in this case related to an infection of the arm fracture.

“Marc Marquez’s post-operative clinical situation has been assessed as satisfactory by his medical team at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid,” said the Repsol Honda statement.

“However, the cultures obtained during the pseudarthrosis operation confirmed that there was a previous infection in the fracture that Marquez will be subject to specific antibiotic treatment in the coming weeks.

“Marquez will stay at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid.”

Operation at this point in winter means for Marquez a race against time to be fully fit in time for the season opener in Qatar in March 2021.

After his dominant campaign in 2019, Marquez took another step towards becoming statistically the greatest MotoGP rider of all time. However, although he was injured early in the season / in July, this operation fueled rumors of the accident and will leave a legacy in his career.
