Dutch MotoGP: Quartararo: You need speed and consistency, this year we have both | MotoGP

Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Vinales go to one of Yamaha’s happy hunting grounds – Assen – in a completely different form.

Quartararo finished an important third place on what he called a “bad weekend” at the Sachsenring, but it was much, much worse for Vinales, who was the last to finish a MotoGP race for the first time in his career.

Quartararo has been arguably the most consistent rider of the season so far, something he believes is vital in modern day MotoGP.

“In MotoGP you need speed and consistency, and this year we have both. Third place at the Sachsenring was good considering that we struggled a little this weekend,” added Quartararo.

“Standing on the podium after a ‘bad weekend’ allows us to look to the future even more positively.

“This weekend we’re going to the TT Circuit Assen, one of my favorite tracks that goes well with Yamaha. I wish it was already Friday!”

The 2020 Dutch GP has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which means Vinales will be the last driver to go there.

The 2019 race turned into a classic as Vinales, Quartararo and Marc Marquez battled at the front until Quartararo struggled physically after arm pump surgery problems resurfaced.

Quartararo still managed to finish third, while Vinales won without a mistake ahead of Marquez.

Vinales is hoping for a similar result amid Germany’s recent troubles as he has been without a podium since the season opener in Qatar where he took the win.

The Spaniard said: “Assen is a track that I really like so I’m looking forward to racing there. I really want to get back on the M1 as soon as possible so we can start working on the bike again

“After a disappointing weekend, we want to keep working and find a way to improve.

“We clearly have a lot of work ahead of us, but that’s fine. I won the Dutch GP in 2019, before the pandemic, so at least we know that a setup similar to what it was back then should be a good start.” Point.”
