MotoGP, Marquez says the doctors made a mistake but still have faith in them

That will probably be remembered as a world championship without Marc Marquez. The Champion is in Cervera waiting for his arm to heal in order to get back to doing what he does best, which is running.

While there is no certainty about the timing of his recovery, there is no lack of controversy over his attempt to get back on his bike just days after his surgery in Jerez. The doctors were accused by many observers, but it was Marc himself who defended them in an interview with DAZN Spain.

“After the first operation, we followed the doctors’ recommendations, who gave me the confidence to get back on my bike and lead a normal life, but it didn’t work out that way – were Marc’s words – I trust dr. Me and his entire team, because anyone can make a mistake. I had a second operation and now they are logically much more careful. It takes time to recover. It is clear that the season is now lost, it is better to heal and come back as strong as possible if my body allows it ”.

Marquez has no regrets when trying to force things into Jerez.

“I’ll give you an example: You have had an operation on your leg, the doctors say you can walk without crutches and you have no pain, what would you do? Would you walk on crutches even if it didn’t hurt? When I returned to Jerez, I took the same risks as when I returned to Brno or the Red Bull Ring. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for a bone to heal. In Jerez only four days had passed, but in Brno it would have been two weeks and at the Red Bull Ring three. The bone would have been brittle anyway ”.

The Honda Champion does not deny that it was a mistake, but this has no influence on his relationship of trust with the doctors …

“The record didn’t hold up as the doctors expected – he continued – It was a mistake, but in retrospect it is easy for anyone to judge. I was the first to meet Dr. Trusted me when I had a second operation on him. Because he had done thousands of procedures and they all went well ”.

Not Marcs …

“When you take a risk, something can always go wrong like I did in Jerez – he said – but I haven’t done anything other than what I’ve been doing for years and which gives me so much pleasure. This time it went bad ”.

The words of a woman he met on the streets of Cervera made him think …

“She said to me, ‘You are doing a risky sport, you have won 8 titles, you have never missed a race and you are not one of those drivers who take less risks. That has resulted in you winning a lot of titles , in every dangerous situation. ” There is a year of sport when you can relax, and that is it. You have to accept it and you have to give yourself time to heal. ‘ It’s time to do it to see if I can do it by the end of the year, I want to do at least one race to prepare for 2021 and get back on the offensive. I say I’ll be back as soon as possible … but if I’m okay. “ he said.

Meanwhile, Honda is lost without its champion …

“It was always said that the Honda was made for me, but all the riders try the same parts and we all make the same comments – Marc explained. I’m the first rider to want a much more versatile bike, one that adapts to different styles and is a little easier to ride, but the Honda is the Honda. Perhaps it is now Nakagami who is pushing in that direction. I know he looks at my data a lot, he always has, but now it works. But the other Honda riders continue to suffer, not just my brother.
