Yamaha turned to Miguel Oliveira: “I was approached, but I have a contract and I am not holding back my word”

Maverick Viñales’ exit from Yamaha forced Yamaha to look for an elite rider for 2022 at the last minute, with Miguel Oliveira being one of the riders investigated by the Japanese factory. The Portuguese confirmed the approach this Friday but remembered that he has a contract with KTM.

Speaking to the media in Almada, where Motorcycle Sports was, the Portuguese commented on the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team’s interest in his services:

  • The market and the contracts, especially in this day and age, show this and we already have one or the other case where there is no will on the part of either party for the rider not to continue with the team or for the team to cease to be the rider wants these contracts to be broken. Nowadays a signed contract is worth what it’s worth. I’ve had my commitment with my team for two years since last year and I’m not going to take that word back. Of course that [Maverick] The situation in Viñales made the talks a bit nervous for the future, I was also approached in this way, but as I said, my focus is on my team. It’s a great team and I think I can become world champion with it and I have a contract and until I win it while I’m here there is still a lot to do.
