SachsenKING – Marc Marquez wins again

For the eleventh time in a row, Marc Marquez stole the show from the Sachsenring and returned to the top step of the podium 581 days after his last win.

When the lights went out at the Sachsenring, there was no stopping Marc Marquez, the 10-time German GP winner shot forward and took second place in the second corner. By the end of the first lap he had taken the lead and was defending a brief challenge from Aleix Espargaro. At a constant pace, the eight-time world champion steadily increased his lead, falling raindrops only spurred him on. As the race went over the half distance, Miguel Oliveira became Marquez’s closest rival as the Portuguese traded fastest laps with the leader.

Intense pressure and a strong drive from Oliveira got Marquez to the end of the race, but 336 days after his injury at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix, Marc Marquez was again a race winner. It is his eleventh win in a row in Germany and the eleventh victory in a row for a Repsol Honda team rider on the track to finish a run of 21 races without a win. With his 96th premier class podium, his 57th win in class, Marquez has the most premier class podiums ahead of Doohan – fourth overall.

The day started well for Pol Espargaro as he finished his Repsol Honda Team RC213V second in the warm up after leading most of the session. Unfortunately, it was a difficult race for Espargaro, who had the feeling that he was not exhausting his potential at the start and spent the following laps overtaking on the tight Sachsenring. With another top ten placement, his fourth of the season, Espargaro is with 35 World Championship points and 12th overall.

The next race is just around the corner while the World Championship heads north to Assen, The Cathedral, for the ninth round of the World Championship. Both Marquez and Espargaro are eager to get back on their feet and have a positive summer break.
