MotoGP, Phil Read back in the hospital: organized a fundraiser for him

Phil Read, one of the motorcycle legends of the 1970s, 7-time world champion (1 x 125; 4 x 250; 2 x 500), winner of a Formula TT, 152 grands prix, 52 wins, 121 podium places, 8 wins at the TT, posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed on his Facebook profile yesterday.

Giacomo Agostini’s legendary rival, World champion with Yamaha and MV, it’s not going well. You may remember that on one of his last performances in Imola, he had to go to the hospital with breathing problems.

That’s what you’d expect from an unsinkable 81 year old from Luton who, let’s put it loud and clear, has never held back in life, neither physically nor economically. Gone are the days when he hit the track in his Rolls Royce with a personalized license plate.

That’s why one of his friends started an appeal.

“I’ve known Phil Read for over 40 years and we’ve always been best friends. Unfortunately, due to his poor health and Covid 19, he was unable to perform and is struggling to survive financially – said his friend Stephen Williams – Phil has been in the hospital with breathing problems for the past two years and is having a hard time getting by financially, even though I give him I’ve helped myself, he needs a little more so that he can lead a more comfortable life. “

Stephen Williams organized this fundraiser for “The Prince of Speed,” as he was called in the Golden Years.
