MotoGP, Bastianini admits he was on the verge of leaving Ducati for Aprilia

Enea Bastianini will be racing with Ducati again next year. The manufacturer Borgo Panigale had an option in its favor for 2022, which it confirmed in recent weeks, but was not entirely convinced of staying. So much so that his manager, Carlo Pernat, had started exploring other roads, such as the one to Noale. In the end, things took care of themselves, but Enea was on the verge of leaving Ducati for Aprilia.

“To be honest, it was like that – he has confirmed – There was a moment when I couldn’t understand what Ducati was suggesting because I had made some requests and they were all turned down. I didn’t know how much they looked after me, but during the negotiations they met me halfway, they took my requests and then I signed because it seemed right to proceed with them.

He will do it with the Gresini team and with a Desmosedici close to the official ones.

“I mainly wanted technical guarantees, because in MotoGP the level is very high and the details make the difference – explained Enea – I wanted to know how competitive my bike would be and now I know that I’ll have an evo GP21 next year.

Now that his future is in place, the Avintia driver has to think of the present and the Assen GP, which started today with the second free practice session due to the rain.

“My feelings are good, but this is a difficult track in MotoGP – he admitted after setting the 20th fastest time – We have to adapt the Ducati especially to this track because it moves a lot. There are also some points where I struggle while I’m already fast on others, so I hope to improve on the corners where I’m going slow.

Always with the sky in view …

“The rain did a bit of damage, I could have improved myself and increased the pace in the afternoon – he said – On the other hand, it’s always useful for me to have a bit of experience in the wet, and I have to say the grip of the The tires and the asphalt are fantastic even when wet. It will be fun.”
