I call Marquez’s MotoGP qualifying tactic “dangerous”

The Suzuki rider and the returning Marquez both faced the Q1 session in Portugal on Saturday afternoon, with the two locked together on their first few runs on the circuit.

I was followed by Marquez at first, but had to overtake the Honda rider, Craig Jones Turn 9, in the left turn.

This allowed Marquez to hook onto the tail of the Suzuki and used it early in the session to get to the top.

In the end, Marquez led Q1 alone after one lap, Mir followed him into Q2, where he qualified in ninth, while the Honda driver finished sixth.

But after qualifying, Mir was dissatisfied with Marquez’s tactics, which he thought would have been punished in a Moto3 session.

“We know that Marc likes to do these things. Today he did it with me and sometimes he does it with others. He likes to fall behind in qualifying and play this game,” said Mir.

“In Moto3 he is punished and it is. I go my own way, it didn’t make me nervous at all, I still took my time, I gave 100% and that’s the way it is.

“But if we had played the game he would have been a lot further up front, he interfered, he came back, he bothered me on my first flying lap because it started slowly, I lost my lap, then he is ran away, he took advantage of mine [rear] Bike … that’s a penalty in Moto3 and probably in Moto2 too. But not here in MotoGP yet. “

I went on to say he doesn’t think Marquez should be punished for what happened on Saturday, but it’s something that should generally come with a punishment.

“I don’t think he should be punished, but this type of action is dangerous in MotoGP as well, not just Moto3,” he added.

“I don’t think he should be punished, but such actions are dangerous.

“In the end he drives a lot slower, he disturbs me on my fast lap and that happens and I think it has to be punished.

“I don’t want to think too much about it either, I’ve spent my time and that’s all.”
