The 2021 MotoGP World Championship won’t start until March, but there is still a lot to experience before it starts.

It’s only a matter of time before the MotoGP season begins in Qatar. Losail is hosting the first official test of the season earlier this month, as well as the first round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship in March. In a year when many are hoping for a return to normal, it is no different for fans of the sport who would rather return to their home countries sooner rather than later.
After a condensed 2020 year in which premier class races were limited to European destinations, this season is making a tentative return to global destinations in America, Asia and Australia. It also sees a multitude of names jumping between teams and classes, which only adds to the desire for racing as plans are already developing for the rest of the season.
Changes in the Yamaha garage make for an interesting read, there Fabio Quartararo makes the leap into the works team of Petronas SRT, with nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi go in the opposite direction. It could certainly be seen as a changing of the guard as Quartararo is certainly one of the favorites to fight for the title this season, given his three race wins from last year.
‘El Diablo’ seemed to be in complete control of the championship after winning the one-two at Jerez and a string of good performances until mid-season when he then experienced a severe loss of form that cost him his shot to fame as he finished 8th overall occupied. Last but not least, it will have proven to be a valuable learning experience for Quartararo as he prepares for another title incline in 2021.
2020 proved to be challenging for Rossi when “The Doctor” signed Covid-19, forcing him out of the Aragon doubles while an underperforming team only exacerbated his problems. The challenges lie ahead as he has to get used to working with a new team as he couldn’t bring all that he wanted with him Franco Morbidelliwho also took three wins last year and it will be interesting to see how the relationship between the two develops on and off the track.
Elsewhere in the Yamaha garage Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) is aiming for significant improvements after an inconsistent season. The number 12 showed great things especially in qualifying in 2020, but harvested less than one would have expected. Viñales often battles Quartararo to be the best of Yamaha and will certainly try to lead the Iwata factory to victory.
Bigger things are certainly expected from Esponsorama Racing this year as they have the recently crowned Moto2 World Champion Enea Bastianini strengthen their ranks. He is joined by another middle school graduate as Luca Marini is promoted by the Sky Racing Team VR46 in order to fill the places vacated by Johann Zarco and Tito Rabat together with his compatriot. The big question about the Suzuki Team Ecstar is whether they can repeat their fairy tale in 2020 after the departure of team manager Davide Brivio.
