Jorge Martin will start from pole position at the Red Bull Ring for the second time within just one week after successfully completing pole positions for the MotoGP of Austria.
The Spaniard took a sensational first MotoGP win for himself and Pramac Ducati from pole on the hilly spot just a week ago, but looked up to repeat the feat when he didn’t automatically advance from FP3 to Q2.
However, after increasing the pace up to the first Q1, Martin then used the additional track time to drive to a sparkling final flyer in the final phase and stop the clock at 1.22.643 minutes.
A full three tenths faster than a week earlier, Martin pushed provisional pole sitter Fabio Quartararo by 0.030 tenths from the top spot, although the championship-leading Frenchman will be happy to have secured a high place for Yamaha on an otherwise difficult day.
