MotoGP, Bagnaia: “There’s always something missing to win, but I don’t regret anything”

“Of course I’m happy, but even today we are always missing something for victory.” Pecco Bagnaia couldn’t hide their disappointment about the missed win today. Binder is not at the very top in the standings, he scored a lot of points on Quartararo and after a while got a podium again, but fate seems to be playing cruel games with the Italian of the Ducati team.

“In the dry, I mastered the race perfectly, I had a lead that would have enabled me to make a difference in the last 5 laps.” – he defined – But then it started to rain. In any case, I’m happy, I haven’t been on the podium since Jerez and on these two weekends we worked better than ever. “

Were you ready to win?

“It wasn’t an easy race from the start, a few raindrops fell and it wasn’t easy to find the pace, but as the laps went on it got better and better. Then it started raining heavier and at that moment I decided to let Marquez pass because I wanted to see what he would do. He is very good in these conditions and when he decided to stop I followed him although I could see a lot of riders with slicks falling by the wayside. “

Marquez then crashed …

“The track was very slippery with the rain tires and for some reason it was more difficult when braking than with slicks at the beginning. Binder was insane before we thought the only driver who can make certain decisions is Miller, now there’s Brad! (laughs). He as unbelievable ”.

Do you regret not having made the same choice?

“I have no regrets, actually I didn’t think anyone would decide to stay on the track with slicks. When I got back to the pits I thought I made the right choice, but now there is little point in thinking about it. I think even if I hadn’t come back, I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with Binder anyway. “

Tell us about the last round …

“When I started I was angry because I only saw a handful of drivers in front of me, I didn’t think there would be that many. When I started overtaking them all between turns 6 and 7, I started counting them, but I must have lost a few because I thought I was fourth and not on the podium (laughs) ”.

What does this 2nd place bring you?

“Much more trust. I know it won’t be easy against the Yamahas and the Suzukis at Silverstone, they can make a difference there, but this year we’ve got good results even on tracks where we usually struggled. This result gives me more motivation to win ”.

You are now second again in the championship.

“The situation is the same as before, 41 points are a lot to catch up. To get closer to Quartararo, you need another race like today’s. Fabio is strong, he has an incredible season and even at a track like this where the Yamaha is struggling, he was ahead. He deserves what he achieves. “
