It is the Australian’s best ever result at Silverstone – the best time so far was sixth place in Moto3 (2014).

While many drivers suffered from tire loss, including Bagnaia, who finished 14th after the second start, Miller was one of the few drivers who got faster and faster as the race progressed.

So much so that he unlocked the podium battle between Alex Rins, Aleix and Pol Espargaro over several laps by half a second and was once ahead of Mir.

This was Miller’s strategy all along as he aimed to keep something in reserve for the last couple of laps, but it became difficult to keep the same pace behind Aleix Espargaro even after trying to get up on the last lap move to third place.

Commenting on his strategy and the race as a whole, Miller added, “In the beginning I was on a plane. It was more of a strategy, but I didn’t really want to push.

“Definitely happy to get out (with a result) because the first lap was pretty hectic. So it was pretty nice to get out unharmed and in a decent position.”
