Johann Zarco: MotoGP: Johann Zarco punished for “irresponsible driving” after Morbidelli collision | Race news

SPIELBERG (Austria): Johann Zarco will start his next MotoGP race from the pit lane after he was sanctioned for “irresponsible driving” after an accident with Franco Morbidelli last weekend in Austria, the International Motorcycle Association announced on Friday.
“After the evaluation, it was found that Johann Zarco had given indications of irresponsible driving, which led to a penalty. The Frenchman will start his next MotoGP race from the pit lane,” said the FIM.
Ducati rider Zarco collided with Italian Morbidelli at the Red Bull Ring last Sunday.
Both men dismounted and let their bikes flip back across the track at speeds of up to 300 km / h (187 mph).
Morbidelli’s machine flew right past the head of nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi, left the Italian heavily shaken and claimed that the lost Yamaha “almost killed” him.
30-year-old Zarco had surgery on his right wrist on Wednesday after injuring himself in the collision. He was widely blamed for the accident and could miss the Styrian Grand Prix this weekend on the same track in Spielberg due to injury.
Zarco did not take part in the opening training on Friday. His fitness for Saturday’s qualifying and for the race on Sunday will be assessed on Friday.
