Dovi and Yamaha reinvigorate relationship with long-term plan
With Franco Morbidelli, who makes his debut for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team at this week’s San Marino and Riviera di Rimini Grand Prix, Yamaha has announced that MotoGP star Andrea Dovizioso will join the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team.
Thus, Dovi is effectively switching to the Petronas SRT seat vacated by Morbidelli after being promoted to the Tier 1 Factory Yamaha team. The Italian will compete for the Yamaha satellite team for the remainder of 2021 and the entire 2022 MotoGP season.

Dovizioso is a three-time MotoGP runner-up and has many successes and victories in the top and bottom classes. He is known as a late brake and one of the cleanest competitors in combat.
Dovizioso is no stranger to the YZR-M1 either, which makes him a perfect addition to the Yamaha rider line-up. He ended a successful 2012 season with a Yamaha satellite team, finishing six thirds and one fourth in the final standings.
The 35-year-old is starting the second stage of his racing career with Yamaha on the former Morbidelli motorcycles. During the 2022 season, he will ride a factory spec YZR-M1 with full support from Yamaha.
