Johann Zarco can be seen performing a rain dance during the weekend after the French wiped out the competition in a wet FP2 session at the San Marino Octo Grand Prix. The Pramac Racing rider was 0.553 seconds ahead of factory colleagues Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) thanks to a 1: 42.097, but his time is still far behind Maverick Viñales’ (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) FP1 performance.
After the sun stimulated a drier afternoon session, it started raining again which meant there wouldn’t be any changes to the Q2 seats, but it did give drivers a chance to practice a little rainy weather before it could turn into a rainy one Weekend in Misano that Ducati could be right to the bottom.
A GP-21 topped the timesheets at all times during the afternoon, with Jack Miller leading the majority of FP2. The Aussie is known for its ability in wet weather and could very well be among the front runners on Sunday if those conditions persist. He wouldn’t finish the session the quickest, however, as Aragon GP winner Bagnaia continued his good form and pushed his team-mate from the top spot just two minutes before the end. Both factory drivers would then be overshadowed by their satellite counterpart Zarco, which showed only a few negative effects of arm pumps.
Elsewhere, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) will keep a close eye on the weather forecast for the weekend. The Frenchman wasn’t the only rider struggling as Enea Bastianini (Avintia Esponsorama) and Iker Lecuona (Tech3 KTM Factory Racing) both went down in serious falls while even Marc Marquez struggled to keep his RC213V in line in the corner to hold 1 chicane.
