COTA calls – Repsol Honda Team returns to Austin

The MotoGP World Championship is heading for the second flyaway of the year as the championship returns to the United States of America. Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro are excited to see what the RC213V can do in Austin and meet US fans.

After two intense weeks of consecutive races and a two-day test, the Repsol Honda Team is back on the road and heading for the States. The unique Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas will once again host the Grand Prix of the Americas after a break in 2020 due to the global pandemic. On the Texas track, which was first added to the calendar in 2013, Marc Marquez clinched six pole positions and victories in a row between 2013 and 2018.

Marc Marquez only missed victory once on the 5.5 km route when he fell into the lead in 2019. Although the eight-time world champion is aware that he will arrive in a completely different situation in 2021, his goal is to make the most of the weekend and continue the last run of form. With second place in Aragon and a struggling fourth place in Misano, the # 93 arrives in one of its best form since its injury. Marquez has taken pole position on each of the last seven MotoGP visits to the Circuit of the Americas and holds the all-time lap record of 2,02,135 in 2015.

After a busy and productive Misano test, Pol Espargaro is also looking forward to being reunited with his Honda RC213V and seeing what is possible in the 20 corners of the Texan circuit. Espargaro’s most recent visit to COTA took eighth place in 2019 and the # 44 only crossed the finish line once outside of the top ten. Like his team-mate, Espargaro has made steady progress since his pole position at Silverstone and aims to make a strong impression in the last four races of 2021.

The action begins in the US on Friday, October 1st at 9:55 am local time at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas.
