“I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed it – said Bez – It’s a different planet compared to motorcycles, but it has its charm. This car is scary, it has tremendous agility and responsiveness, it’s very fast and with incredible braking, that’s the most impressive thing. “
However, four wheels are only a short bracket, as in just over a week his Kalex will be waiting for him to continue his journey in Moto2. Marco is third in the championship, but 56 points behind Gardner and everything didn’t go well at the start of the season.
Was this five week break too long or did you need it?
“Before the break, I couldn’t wait for it to arrive, then after less than two weeks I couldn’t wait for the races to start again (laughs). A break was needed by both the team and the drivers so it was useful.
You weren’t far from the bikes anyway, how do you prepare for the second part of the championship?
“I only took about ten days vacation, then we started training again. I’m very excited, we’ll be racing on tracks that I really like and I’m excited to see how things continue. I really want to get back on my bike and be with my team, I miss it ”.
The start of the championship went below expectations, what was missing?
“We’re always missing something, sometimes at the start of the race, sometimes at the end, sometimes in qualifying. It’s always small things that have big consequences. I have to calm down a bit, I was quick in the last few races, but I always made a mistake in qualifying. “
Did you expect such a clear dominance of the Ajo team with Gardner and Fernandez?
“To be honest, no, it went without saying that they would be strong because They are two quick drivers but nobody expected them to make such a difference. Nobody can explain it, but that’s the way it is, you have to be able to catch them and even hit them ”.
Did you study it? What are you doing differently?
“I saw something, learned a lot, but then also tried to clear my head. As I said, I understood something, but I won’t tell you anything (laughs) ”.
There is a lot of talk about you for a future in MotoGP, both for the VR46 team and for Petronas.
“First of all, I’m super happy, when you’re in Moto2, you’re about to move, but you also know how difficult it is, and having two offers is something great. Of course, it will be a tough decision because you have to feel ready, if you really are you may only know when you are there but you have to feel it before you make up your mind. Fortunately, I still have some time to think about it and I already got an idea through talking to Uccio and Carlo (Casabianca, sports trainer from VR46, ed.). Do you regret turning down Aprilia’s offer last year?
“I didn’t feel ready and wanted to keep improving. I felt sorry for Massimo (Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing) because he was really cool with a big C. He turned out to be a person who does things he was interested in me and made me a suggestion with everything I could wish for. I was sorry because I was in a time when I didn’t feel like it, but you never know about the future ”.
