South African Darryn Binder will compete in MotoGP next season with older brother Brad and alongside experienced Andrea Dovizioso on the Yamaha RNF satellite team.
Binder has been racing in Moto3 since 2015 – Brad was crowned world champion in this category in 2016 – and has been on the podium six times, with the top win at the Catalonian GP last year.
“I definitely didn’t expect to make the leap from Moto3 straight to the top tier, but I believe I’m up to the challenge and ready to do all the hard work for 2022.”

Binder, who is sixth in the Moto3 title standings with three races to go, has registered for the 2022 season with an option to extend it for another year. “It was a lifelong dream to ride in the MotoGP category,” said Binder in a statement.
“I definitely didn’t expect to make the leap from Moto3 straight to the top tier, but I believe I’m up to the challenge and ready to do all the hard work for 2022.”
Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, said he hopes the RNF will develop future talent who can then ride for Yamaha.
“It’s a fresh start for the Yamaha satellite team and that makes it all the more appropriate to have a young and eager rider like Darryn with us,” said Jarvis.
